Here's Your Chance To Drive The Legendary Jaguar XJ220

Offbeat / 7 Comments

For a period of time, the XJ220 was the fastest car in the world, and now it's coming to Gran Turismo 7.

Since its release last year, the updates have come thick and fast for Gran Turismo 7, with the latest version of the game including new cars like the Jaguar XJ220 and Mercedes-AMG GT3. Released this week, update 1.32 for PlayStation fans also adds the Dallara SF23 Super Formula with either a Honda or Toyota engine, while Super Formula itself is a new option within the game's World Circuits. In GT Cafe, players can choose from two new menus - the Alpine or Shelby collection - and there are two new Scapes, those being North Yorkshire and Miyazaki, for the game's photography mode.

Perhaps the highlight of these updates is the addition of the iconic 1992 Jaguar XJ220, which we consider one of the best British cars of all time. For a period in the 1990s, it held the record for being the fastest production car in the world.

It makes its virtual comeback here for the first time since GT6.

The XJ220's top speed record was later surpassed by the McLaren F1, but its achievement remains special, even among modern supercars. Its turbocharged V6 engine replaced the Jaguar V12 that was originally planned, but that didn't stop the car from being very well received at the time of its launch. The XJ220 joins the McLaren F1 and Ferrari F40 in Gran Turismo 7 as a rare breed of record-breaking supercars that left their mark towards the end of the 20th century.

The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT3 is another fine addition to GT 7. It's an improved version of the original AMG GT3 that was unveiled a few years earlier, with a refreshed front end helping to increase the protection of the radiator. It also has a wider, gaping grille and updated front and rear lights. Even with the new AMG ONE here, this GT3 is still one of AMG's most spectacular cars.

Elsewhere in GT7, the new Shelby Collection in the GT Cafe will require Collector Level 41 or above, and the Alpine Collection needs Collector Level 35 or above to unlock. Expect to pay a pretty penny for the XJ220, too, which can be bought at Legend Cars.

These latest updates follow several others over the last couple of months. Last year, new cars that were added included the BMW M2 Competition and the 1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth. That was followed by the beguiling Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm that joined the game's options late in 2022, along with the Bugatti Chiron and Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray.
