Rumor: Porsche 911 ST Will Be Unleashed On June 8

Rumor / 5 Comments

Porsche's latest Heritage model is just around the corner.

Comedian and Porsche enthusiast Spike Feresten recently claimed on his Spike's Car Radio podcast that he knows when Porsche's next car is coming out, and it will be next month on June 8. Speaking with fellow funny man and Porschephile Jerry Seinfeld, Spike claimed that a new car arrives next month, 75 years from the date that the first vehicle to wear the famous Porsche crest - the beautifully graceful 356 - was registered, June 8, 1948.

That date corresponds with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where Porsche won its class with the original 911 ST, and this will also help serve as a celebration of six decades of the 911. With the track-focused 911 GT2 RS only likely to be revealed next year for the 2026 model year, only one car can possibly be en route: the modern Porsche 911 ST.

Porsche CEO Oliver Blume confirmed earlier this year that 2023 would see the reveal of several more special editions, and the 911 ST is likely to be one of the standouts from what will surely be an impressive highlight reel come the end of the year.

The 911 ST name comes from a run of just 24 racers of the same name from 1970. At the time, Porsche's goal was to create the lightest car possible, and the new one will try to capture at least some of that essence with a unique construction to that of the regular 911 Carrera. Carbon fiber doors and roof are said to be coming to this new Heritage Design model, and its engine will be just as exciting.

Sources claim that the regular 911 T will form this car's basis but that the 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six from the Porsche 911 GT3 (producing 503 horsepower) will be fitted in the back. Will it produce as much as in that car? That remains to be seen, and we don't even know if a manual transmission will be available or if a PDK dual-clutch will be the default.

Either way, it will offer a different flavor than a GT3 or GT3 Touring. Autocar claims that insiders have revealed the 911 ST to be the lightest of the 992 generation. As a low-volume enthusiast special, likely to be mentioned in the same breath as the undeniably brilliant 911 R, the 911 ST will not be cheap or easy to get your hands on.
